Von Thunen Model Defined

"A model which describes patterns of commercial agriculture. Based on bid-rent curves, this model seeks to show why more intensive agriculture is located closer to market centers while extensive agriculture locates farther from those centers. The model makes a number of simplifying assumptions - such as the assumption of an isotropic plain and rational economic beings - in order to show the importance of land and transportation costs to the geography of commercial agriculture."
